Veterinary Experts from Around the World Gather in Honolulu for AVMA Annual Convention Veterinary medicine is responsible for eradicating many diseases around the world, inventing new medical procedures used in both human and animal health, making life better for both people and animals. From July 15-19, thousands of experts in veterinary medicine will gather in Honolulu for the 143rd annual American Veterinary Medical Association Convention.
The AVMA Annual Convention will offer nearly 1,000 hours of educational programming. In addition to the educational opportunities, more than 200 companies will be present in the exhibit hall to display their products and services. Finally, a full complement of social programs like Family Night and networking opportunities like the Alumni Receptions will complete the convention experience.
Hot topics of discussion at this year’s convention include:- Public release of a study examining the supply and demand of food supply veterinarians and its potential effect on the future abundance of food and its safety in the United States and Canada.
- National and international efforts to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, new methods of surveillance, efficacy of vaccinations and the role of the military in a potential pandemic.
- Threats to the health of Hawaii’s Marine Ecosystem, impact of invasive species on Hawaii’s ecosystems and recovery strategies for endangered forest birds.
- Diversity Symposium-Realities and Benefits of Diversity in Veterinary Medicine, featuring a keynote address by Dr. Debbye Turner, veterinarian, television personality, and Miss America 1990.
